Food for thought:
Do humans just have a constant need to keep running away - towards something else, something seemingly better - in hope of fulfilling something more worthwhile? What if at the end of this race, everything you left behind cannot be retrieved again, and you’re left with something lessor than what you started with?
Tis the neverending cycle of thirst for more, and fear of letting go.
The scariest part of having high expectations is opening up to the exposure of being let down.
SO BEGINS THE MONTH OF FUN

One Year Since Joplin
365 days ago, an F5 tornado tore through Joplin, MO killing 160 people, causing $2.8 billion in damages, and changing countless lives in an instant.
Robert X. Fogarty, who I had the pleasure of speaking with in Chicago earlier this year (he also took this portrait of me), is a truly great dude. He has collected inspiring tributes to Joplin as part of his Dear World project (here and here). It’s living poetry, to share emotions and send each other hope. He had seen his own hometown of New Orleans devastated only a few years prior, and his photos have played a big part in inspiring NOLA’s recovery.
April and May of 2011 were record months for tornado activity in the US (as shown by this animation from NOAA). These somber images should remind us that yes, nature is powerful and man is fragile, but via research and science we can be safer, and via our humanity we can recover.

Amazing!
First hearing the dear world campaign was at the social enterprise conference held at HBS in March 2011. The creator himself was the keynote speaker and held a photo shoot for all attendees at the end of the day. Amazing fella! Can’t believe I’m seeing him on other tumblr blogs now :)
